About Me
I am a Washington DC based Artist and Architect, born in New Jersey. I completed a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts in 1981 and went on to a Masters of Architecture in 1990. After 8 years of architectural practice, I returned full time to my original passion for painting. I work in watercolor, oil & printmaking.

I have exhibited widely in the Washington DC area and my work is found in collections around the world, from embassies to corporate and private collections.

My education as an architect has opened my eyes to the unique qualities of places and helps me to understand the forms of the built environment, in a broad vista or an intimate still life. I work to capture this on paper, to show ordinary things in an extraordinary way.

About My Paintings

A painting can capture life-like details and
yet be lifeless. My intent is not to accurately depict something, like a camera, but to reveal things  that can be felt more readily than seen. I want my pictures to show the passion I feel for people, places and things.

I love painting in watercolor. Flowing washes suggest form while details flicked quickly with the tip of a brush conjure up the specifics of a building or landscape. I want the viewer to look at a picture and see how it was done -- seeing the craft and feeling the presence of the place. The simplicity of watercolor tools readily allow an artist to work on location and impulse. I want to integrate my work and day to day life in a way that is only possible by being able to work anywhere.
